The work-line “Blue Monochrome” by Jan Robert Leegt is a multiple work.
So directly, it evokes of course the famous series of paintings of Yves Klein, the design is much more to Marcel Duchamp than any other artist.

This ready-made twenty-first century consists in fact of some minimal interventions of the artist, whose principal has been to give a title to his work, the remainder consisting of a series of actions that all of the web is used need to perform regularly.

And, above all “Blue Monochrome” is a domain name and that name is the only intervention “literary” of the artist. It defines both the title of the work – always present in the viewer’s browser window – and something perhaps more important, it requires the artist to pay for this work are free.

Then the action of Jan Robert Leegt limited integration into the page in the Google Maps API, carefully configured with coordinates (longitude and latitude) that had previously selected and we are planning somewhere middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Nothing that appears on bluemonochrome.com therefore belongs to the artist, who has also not remove the copyright information from Google and NASA, of the Project. And unlike many art digital and online, the code itself of the API is not an original creation. Like Marcel Duchamp and his readymades, the major artistic gesture Jan Robert Leegt has therefore been to point the finger at one component of our daily environment by combining a url to geographic coordinates.
